Twitter is not an application to be taken for granted or ignored. I’ve been using Twitter to assist in my job search for the past year and it has proven to be an invaluable resource. I have made connections from here (Chicago) all the way to New Zealand, not to mention established relationships that are more valuable than just merely networking. The outpour of genuine concern has shown me that we are all in this thing together and that is worth me taking the time to blog…
So, Twitter (more information in the resource section) has an add-on application, TweetDeck. This desktop/mobile app allows you to seamlessly integrate many other social media components, such as FaceBook, Linkedin, Buzz, FourSquare as well as Twitter just to name a few. Within a single window I am able to add several columns of information, which are constantly updated. The importance of this is simple – I am not jumping from window to window within various browsers to keep up with my global search efforts.
TweetDeck is also customizable – you can use hash tags (#) in order to filter out relevant information pertaining to your interests. I have #project management chicago, #jobsusa, and #social media as my key search engines. One of the most awesome feature is, you can update your status, reply to comments or post information from one point of contact. Use TweetDeck to alert your followers to the fact that you are looking for a job. Let them know about your awesome talents, in other words, toot your own horn! Become your own recruiter by building up your network and establishing connections.
Public Service Announcement:
Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flappin’ their wings singing go bird go
As always, I encourage you to use your down time as an opportunity to re-invent, re-explore, re-vitalize, re-establish and re-create yourself so that you remain relevant in an ever-changing work space. I’ve included a few worthy resources to assist you, so until next time – Enjoy!

I am slowly learning the importance of social media, and for connecting to such a beautiful person as yourself so many miles away, it is a wonderful bridge. Face to face connection, the hugs and touches and body language can never be replaced. I am a person who enjoys touch, even if it is only with my words or an approving glance.
Social media does allow us to connect with people and situations that otherwise would not be afforded to us. It allows us to spread our wings and fly over unseen areas of our world to connect with beauty and wisdom that were always there, just hidden by songs so distant as to be unheard. Or maybe hidden, because those that have such beauty and wisdom do not know that they are free to share it.
I am happy that this technology is allowing you those very connections, both personal and secular. We all have so many avenues in which to connect these days which I hope will lead to rich relationships of every kind. Thank you for sharing your discoveries. You are a blessing to us all.
I can not agree with you more that we need to continually re-invent and re-invest in ourselves. I read an article recently where some unemployed individuals found that they no longer qualify for their old jobs, as employers combine positions and expect more. This sounds unfortunate at first, but should inspire persons to improve their skills, examine their own talents and pursue their passion, perhaps in a different field altogether. The mind is free; the cages we build out of fear and apprehension can be opened by learning, humbling ourselves and accepting God’s plan for us, whatever that may be. With the strength and courage God gives us, we can set out into the world anew. Best wishes to you, Dawn. You are doing fantastic work here, thank you!
Take care, stay well and be safe.
